How to Check Your Remaining NDIS Funding

Not sure how much money is left in your NDIS plan?

You can check your funding through the my NDIS app, a participant portal or your plan manager. But there's something important to know.

The balance you see might not be the amount you have free to spend.

Here's how to check.

How do I check my funding in the my NDIS app?

You can check your NDIS budget in a few steps:

  1. Open the my NDIS app and sign in.
  2. Find your budget on the home screen.
  3. Check the funding available in each support category.
  4. Open your plan details to check your funding and plan dates.

The app helps you see how much funding you've used and what remains.

Can I check my funding online?

Yes.

The NDIS has two participant portals:

  • my NDIS participant portal: For plans created in the newer NDIS computer system.
  • myplace participant portal: For plans in the older system.

You can access your portal through myGov. Look for your budget information, including the remaining balance and spending details.

The options may look different depending on which portal you use.

Does my remaining balance mean I can spend all of it?

Not always.

Think of your NDIS budget like your bank account. You might see money in your account, but some of it may already be needed for bills you've agreed to pay.

The same can happen with NDIS funding.

For example:

  • Your displayed balance is $5,000.
  • You have $1,200 in provider invoices still to be processed.
  • You have $2,000 in support sessions already booked.

That could leave around $1,800 for other supports, assuming all those costs will come from the same available funding.

This is only an example. Your actual balance will depend on your plan, claims and bookings. Before booking more services, check what you've already committed to spending.

Can my plan manager tell me how much funding I have left?

Yes, for the funding they manage.

Your plan manager can help you understand:

  • How much funding you've spent.
  • How much funding is left.
  • Which invoices have been processed.
  • Whether your spending is on track.
  • How funding periods affect your available budget.

Plan managers must also provide a monthly financial statement. This should show your spending, remaining funding and any concerns about overspending.

Why can't I use all the funding shown in my plan?

Your plan may have funding periods. These divide your funding into amounts that become available at different times.

For example, your plan might have $12,000 over a year, but only $3,000 becomes available in the first three months.

You can't automatically use funding from a future period early. Check your funding period dates before booking new supports.

How often should I check my NDIS funding?

It's a good idea to check your funding regularly, especially:

  • Before booking a new service.
  • When you change providers.
  • After a large invoice.
  • Before your next funding period.
  • When your plan is close to ending.

If you're unsure how long your funding will last, ask your plan manager or NDIS contact for help.
