Can I Change My NDIS Plan Manager?
Author: Matt Clements
Yes. You can choose a different NDIS plan manager at any time during your plan.
You don't have to wait for your plan to end.
You will need to tell your current plan manager, check any notice requirements in your service agreement and arrange the changeover.
Do I need a reason to change plan managers?
No. You don't have to be unhappy with your current plan manager to choose another one.
You might want:
- Easier access to your NDIS budget information.
- Clearer updates about provider invoices.
- Better communication when you need help.
- A service that better suits your needs.
Choosing a plan manager is a bit like choosing a mobile phone provider. You can look for a service that works better for you without having to justify your decision.

Can I change without waiting for a new NDIS plan?
Yes. If your funding is already plan-managed, you can choose a different registered plan manager during your current plan.
You should:
- Check your current service agreement for notice requirements.
- Tell your current plan manager you intend to leave.
- Arrange for the NDIA to record the change.
You don't need a new NDIS plan simply to choose a different plan manager.
The NDIS guide to plan management explains your options.

Can my current plan manager refuse to let me leave?
Your current plan manager cannot simply remove your right to choose another provider.
The NDIA says existing plan managers should help participants who want to move to a new plan manager. This includes forwarding outstanding invoices to the new manager for processing where required.
You should still check your service agreement for any notice or cancellation conditions.

What if my NDIS funding isn't plan-managed?
If your funding is currently self-managed or NDIA-managed, you can ask the NDIA to change it to plan-managed funding.
You don't have to wait until your plan ends to make this request.
The NDIA will consider your request and may update your existing plan to include plan management arrangements.
This is different from switching between two existing plan managers.

What should I do if I want to change?
You can start by researching registered plan managers and asking questions about their services. Once you've chosen one, you'll need to arrange the change with your existing plan manager and the NDIA.
