Valmae has worked in a range of roles across the disability and broader community service sector for more than 30 years. She works one on one, with families, circles of support, support worker teams, organisations and government and is always happy to collaborate with other providers and community agencies.

Valmae works on a home visit and community visit basis, locally in south-east Qld and in regional Australia by arrangement.

The main service offerings include:

Assessment of needs (in the context of life, work and play) and reports outlining recommendations for therapy and other activities to address the goals and dreams of the individual. Examples of focus may include:

1. functional capacity assessment (an overall assessment of ability to perform day to day activities for living)

2. home and living assessment (specific assessments to identify best fit living arrangements)

3. sensory and social-emotional capacity assessment (sensory preferences and impact on behaviour, movement, and daily living

activities)

4. chronic pain, fatigue, neurological conditions (nervous system functioning and managing everyday activities, relationships etc)

Examples of intervention may include:

...skill and confidence building

...preparing for transition from home to other living arrangements

...creating strategies to bring stability and certainty to current living, school or work arrangements

...exploring polyvagal strategies (learning to regulate ones own nervous system)

...reimagining the future and deciding on the goals & action steps to get there

Training, development and supervision of support worker teams with a focus on:

1. routines and relationships that are guided by the unique strengths, needs and goals of the person being supported

2. the roles and expectations of the individual, their family and our community

3. the UN Convention on Human Rights for People with Disability

4. individual staff plans for building capability and effectiveness

Service and organisational development facilitation with a focus on:

1. service evaluation and improvement

2. shifting from input to outcome focus in service delivery

3. strengthening the quality of engagement and co-design with both staff and people being supported
