Takes Care Specialist Centre Therapy Dog Since 2011, our Brisbane-based psychiatrists and psychologists have been providing face to face and telehealth consults to Brisbane and regional areas, respectively. Whether you live in Brisbane or in a regional area, to make an appointment, you need to see your GP to obtain a referral or a Mental Health Care Plan to see one of our Brisbane-based psychiatrists or psychologists, respectively. At Takes Care Specialist Centre, our psychiatrists and psychologists are proud of the level of excellence and experience brought to each therapeutic session. In addition to having an in-depth knowledge of mental health specialist areas, our psychiatrists can identify possible medical and pharmacological pathways to recovery. Our psychologists, on the other hand, are experienced in identifying the possible cause and contributing factors to the mental health symptoms and whilst engaging with you to find your specific pathway to your psychological health and wellbeing. Each session is client-centred in a friendly and relaxing environment, where utmost effort is made to make everyone feel safe and valued. We have a comprehensive range of services available for our clients, including: • Adolescent, general and geriatric psychiatry • Adults, adolescent and child psychology • Couples and relationship counselling • Psychological services for NDIS participants (including limited home services) For a comprehensive list of our services, please check out our Services and Areas of Expertise pages to learn more. Face to face consults will restart after the COVID-19 crisis. To assist every psychiatry patient, psychology client and NDIS participant, who visits Takes Care Specialist Centre feel at ease and less stressed, Balloo, our new therapy dog in training has been added to our team. Balloo is an adorable miniature labradoodle (mix of Labrador and Poodle), who joined us earlier in May of 2021, when he was only 9 weeks old. From the beginning, he took a great liking to everyone that walked through our doors, showering them with his affections and making them feel comfortable and easy. We have seen responses from our patients, such as “When Balloo in my arms, I forget about everything”. Balloo is still very young and has a way to go, before becoming a certified therapy dog. As the pictures show, he has just graduated from his first round of puppy school. Nevertheless, he has been very effective in reducing anxiety, lifting spirits, and comforting our patients. He will also be going through more puppy school traning and then therapy training as well. Currently, he is only available for 2 days a week. If you are interested to have him with you at your appointment, please do not hesitate to let our friend admin staff know. The benefits of therapy dogs are many and well documented, several of which are listed below. It is hoped that spending time with Balloo, can provide you some of these benefits for you as well. Provide you comfort. Decrease your anxiety. Lift your spirit and improve your mood. Reduce your stress level by reducing your stress hormone, cortisol, levels. Assist with slowing down breathing. Creates motivation to recover faster. Soothing to children to help them to build rapport with their psychologist or psychiatrist more quickly. Reduced boredom in children.

The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life.

To be eligible for the NDIS, individuals must be under the age of 65, be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent visa, and have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate in everyday activities.

Your NDIS plan revolves around your personal life goals and aspirations. It is crafted based on the information you share during your planning session with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC). Within your plan, you will find a breakdown of the various supports required to help you reach your goals, along with the specific funding allocated to each support category.

Your NDIS plan is tailored to your needs and is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet your changing circumstances and goals.

The NDIS can be difficult to navigate, it's important that you prepare and seek out assistance during your application process.

For more details, see our step by step guide by visting https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/how-apply.

The NDIS requires service providers to register with them to allow for direct invoicing claims for NDIA-managed clients. However, not all providers opt for registration, meaning there could be a suitable unregistered provider out there that can offer you supports. Access to these unregistered providers is only available if you self-manage your funds or have a Plan Manager.
