The first Care Support Worker that contacted me was professional, caring and knowledgeable about the support my Son required. An interview was set up quickly, but prior to services being able to be set up she was promoted.

Her replacementshowed no empathy or interest in her role as a “support".

What I found to be unprofessional were the promises of leave it with me and I will call back . No calls !!!!

I have since gotten onto another Service who once contacted by me were out the next day to meet my Son and find out what his likes /dislikes were and services and support started the following week. I would never recommend Aruma to provide disability services to anyone .

I cannot recommend this organisation in the ACT for someone needing significant care.

Management is beyond poor.

They do not have capacity to advocate for you or protect your interests strongly.

Their financial systems are suspect.

Adequate as a babysitter.

I would not recommend this organisation. We require 24 hour care and our family member has been left without care several times and only at the last minute after much cajoling, have the shifts been filled. There are times when we have had to step in and fill shifts. After hours are not really interested in the predicament we are placed in at late notice, when shifts haven't been filled or workers cancel.

Management do not answer phones or return calls about these problems.

Communication not 100%. Support worker is about the same as as my son and is about as organised. The person in charge isn't easy to get hold of.

They've been good. Good communication and listen to what we're after. The workers have good value systems. They've been empowering not babysitting. I love the coordinator, he is a nice man.

I'm an individual support worker and no longer working with HWNS. I was really impressed with what HWNS was able to do in helping a particular guy pursue his passion for bush walking. Together we researched and fund options suitable to him and he had a fantastic holiday bush walking.

The open relationship with Management we have are very important. If there is a change in Management I would hope this continues.

I do not like receiving short notice of the unavailability of staff to cover a shift as this distresses both me and my family member. I am aware this can happen at short notice but surely it can be covered by the person who attends to the roster or someone in the management team as they promote the needs and support of participants is very important to the organization. They must understand the participant cannot do what a support person can do i.e. prepare their own meal, go to regular week day appointments, grocery replacement etc. this why they have contracted the service to assist, guide and support them in these activities.

I do not like staff shrinking their duty of care and do not follow the daily tasks list or leaving their shift early, leaving other staff to pick up and increase their shifts workload taking time away from the participants shift hours allocated to care, support and assist them.

I would like to see regular Performance Appraisals with participant/family involvement. As Management do not always know what goes on in participants/families homes.

Review Update

I now acknowledge that a phone call was indeed made today and about two months ago. It is hard to keep up with who makes contact with me as I’m trying so many different places and Tipping Foundation were not the only ones who have not made contact with me as yet. I gained some more useful information that I hope will be beneficial to me in the future.

First review - 1 Star March 2, 2018

I like it because they listen if there's a problem. They try to sort it out with me first. I can contact my support worker if I get home late. I don't like the slow response time if I need to get in touch with my coordinator after hours. Better training techniques & communication strategies needed.

My son goes to the day program. They’re alright but with some carers they’re not 100% – I don’t feel that they give my son enough attention. He’s become frustrated there because he was left alone. My son is better with male carers, it would be great if they had more male carers.

I like the staff. I’m with supported accommodation. I’m allowed to have my cat there. I get to choose what I do. I get to decorate my own room. I have some friends at my house.

I really like the way that residents are able to communicate with staff in order to meet our goals. for example, I applied for and was granted a sum of money from MS Australia to put towards meeting a long desired goal: which was to produce my own cooking show. therefore particular staff members and the house manager were able to meet and make plans with me and then organize the actual filming. and they did preparations behind the screen in order to help the filming run smoothly.

The only thing that I honestly am not happy with is that my children haven't been able to stay overnight. therefore I would hope that we could work out a way that this could become possible.

One thing I really like is that I have the option of socializing or staying in my room to have some me time. a few years ago, when everyone else had gone home to their families for Christmas I had my entire family (which is a lot) come to the house and celebrate Christmas. what really makes me feel like I'm at home is the fact that celebrations with my family here at the house is expectable and encouraged.

I'm happy that the Tipping Foundation understand our situation as two of my children have autism. My sons have anxiety and they assured me that they will look after them and put my mind at ease. My sons are treated equally and with respect. The Tipping Foundation understand autism so it puts my mind at ease so I can enjoy being with my other child too.

We have used the respite home services for 3 years - and the staff went to great effort to help my children settle in with visits to us and time for the boys to get used to the home. The Tipping staff are good at giving my sons their medication and their communication is very good through email, sms and phone calls.

Sometimes, it can't be helped, but there can be a high noise level which disturbs my children. So if my children are trying to sleep, they could do something about the noise so that my children sleep better and aren't so tired.

It’s good for my children to learn to be away from home as they get older and need to learn useful skills like cleaning or making their own food. I'd like my sons to increase their independence around the home and they listen to people outside of the home more than their parents, so Tipping could help us with this through more rewards, encouragement and praise. It's good when they take them out on excursions to get them away from the house and they need encouragement to use their words, to be more aware of money and have a sense of the real world.

I’ve tried other respite homes in the past and we weren’t happy with the service and the way they treated my sons. It's not easy being a parent of children with autism but without this service I don't know where I'd be. It's great to have a service you can rely on - it's not easy to find a service that you can trust. We'll continue with Tipping Foundation as long as can.

Tipping Foundation review

My daughter goes to The Tipping 5 days a week. They have been excellent - there has been no conflict, everything has been really good. All the staff have been great. They're very friendly and helpful and we've had no issues, everyone is very approachable. If we have our own problems, they've helped us with them. Our daughter loves going there and wouldn't miss a day!

Tipping Foundation review

My adult son has been using Tipping since he left school - 6 years ago.

I think they're really good and very client focused which sometimes can be hard and to get use to. It was a big adjustment but the services have been very good and my son is deliriously happy there. He gets himself up and out there everyday - there's not much else I could ask for. They're happy for me to discuss anything that's coming up and he's had some wonderful people working with him. They've been very focused on what's right for my son.

My son has been with Tipping for over 10 years. They run lots of activities for him that he enjoys including gardening, music and working on a farm. My son is very happy there and The Tipping Foundation have been excellent - the staff are wonderful, kind and gentle. We've had no problems - they've been perfect!

I use in-home support and have been with Tipping for 6 years. They

help me get up in the morning and with some shopping.

They've been good. There have been organisational changes, like every organisation but they really respond well when I contact them.

The only thing that hasn't been very good is that they don't have a receptionist at the moment, but they're working on it!

I can't speak highly enough of the carers. I get to screen all my potential workers. Tipping sets up a meeting and I get to say if I want to give them a go or not. If I've ever been unhappy its been really easy to make changes.

Thank you so much for the review and 5-star rating! Appreciate your feedback always. Our receptionist duties for Geelong office are currently being shared with our Ballarat office, but we do have a new part time Coordinator starting Monday the 8/5 to provide additional support.

Tipping foundation review

I am a mother/carer writing on behalf of client receiving Tipping Foundation services (client is aware of review).

What I like: The flexibility of changing the staff support or cancelling the support when spontaneous situations occur. eg When a family function or community event is arranged at short notice to allow the client to attend.

What I hope will change: Staff awareness of what client can do and what areas of needs the staff need to guide, supervise or assist with to complete the task correctly – cleaning of unit/fridge/shower/floors etc – all staff to read and acknowledge by signing the clients ISP.

What I hope to see more of: Going on trips away with compatible male support staff to increase life experiences/cities/interstate/ variety of travel options/men’s talk etc.Walking to keep within a healthy weight range to prevent obesity as client ages.

The Tipping Foundation rolled out new invoicing a couple of months ago. The new look invoices were designed in consultation with clients and include both a snapshot of services and more detailed outline of shifts, costs etc. Hoping you are finding this improved. Thanks for your review and rating, feedback like this is always very welcome. Cheers
