Brett Scholz

Bio: Associate Professor Brett Scholz is a critical health psychologist working in the School of Medicine and Psychology at the Australian National University. His research program explores how lived experience leadership can shape health policy, service design, research and education, and aims to support organisations, teams, initiatives, and individuals to move beyond consultation towards genuine partnership and shared decision-making.

While he does not work from a lived experience perspective himself, the majority of his 100+ publications have been collaboratively produced and co-authored by researchers working from lived experience perspectives. In addition to his research, he has served as a Board Member of the ACT Mental Health Consumer Network, is currently the Vice Chair of the International Society of Critical Health Psychology, and holds editorial roles with the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, Qualitative Health Research, Psychology of Men & Masculinities, and the International Mad Studies Journal.

When he isn't thinking about health system reform and the future of lived experience leadership, Brett can often be found searching for the perfect bánh cuốn, enjoying his daily matcha latte, or growing and harvesting rushes for Ngarrindjeri weaving.
